Washington State Recreational Sales Begin In July
However, a recent report from Marijuana.com indicates that after several months of confusion on behalf of the Washington State Liquor Control Board, it seems the state is finally prepared to bury their uncertainty in smoke: recreational marijuana sales are set to begin on July 1, 2014.
Unfortunately, it does not appear the launch of Washington’s retail reefer market will have the same level of burning enthusiasm as was celebrated in Colorado on New Year’s Day. So far, it looks like only one retail pot shop will be ready to open its doors the first day of July -- Kouchlock Productions in Spokane, which incidentally is operated by Sean Green, who received the states first producer/processor license back in March.
Despite the promising news of Washington’s first retail weed operation gearing up for public sales in less than a month, production issues will dictate the event be a soft opening, to say the least. Green’s partner Scott O’Neil says because of high demand and an extremely brief growing season, there is a distinct possibility their pot shop will be forced to put restrictions on how much weed an individual customer is able to purchase.
O’Neil said Kouchlock has been communicating with every marijuana grower across the state in an attempt to beef up the store’s inventory. Yet, customers will likely still be limited in their pot buys -- possibly only having the option to buy eighths, which will cost anywhere between $65-75.
