Mr. Cameron Groome reports
AVIVAGEN INC. AND UNAHCO, INC. ANNOUNCE OXC-BETA(TM) LIVESTOCK DISTRIBUTION AND SUPPLY AGREEMENT
Avivagen Inc. and UNAHCO Inc. has signed an agreement under which Avivagen will supply OxC-beta livestock to UNAHCO for sales and distribution in the Republic of the Philippines.
OxC-beta livestock is a proprietary product demonstrated to be effective and economic in replacing the antibiotics commonly added to livestock feeds. OxC-beta is derived from Avivagen discoveries about the properties of carotenoids, the compounds that give certain fruits and vegetables their bright colors. Comprising fully oxidized beta-carotene, OxC-beta is a non-antibiotic means of maintaining optimal health and growth in livestock animals such as swine and poultry.
Avivagen and UNAHCO have executed an agreement under which Avivagen will supply UNAHCO with OxC-beta for sales and distribution to the Philippines on an exclusive basis. The agreement follows the parties' July 27 announcement of registration of OxC-beta as a livestock feed additive, thereby authorizing its use in all species in the Philippines. With both registration and the agreement in place, the national market introduction of OxC-beta will now begin within certain UNAHCO-branded feeds.
UNAHCO is the wholly owned feed and veterinary subsidiary of Unilab Inc., the largest pharmaceutical company in the Philippines. UNAHCO provides a broad range of animal health care and nutrition products and programs to meet the requirements of both large commercial and smaller individual farmers in the Philippines, as well as abroad. Based in metropolitan Manila, it is a leading producer of pig and poultry feed, and has a distribution network that serves more than 3,000 outlets, supported by more than 100 field staff.
Ricardo C. Alba, president and chief opearting officer of UNAHCO, commented: "After conducting our own trial of OxC-beta livestock and reviewing those of others, UNAHCO has concluded that this product aligns with our industry-leading green platform strategy safe feed equals safe food. We are therefore pleased to incorporate this important new product into our UNAHCO-branded feeds." Cameron Groome, chief executive officer and president of Avivagen, provided further perspective, stating: "We're delighted to have concluded this agreement with UNAHCO and will shortly welcome the start of sales of OxC-beta livestock in the Philippines. Making OxC-beta available to replace in-feed antibiotics across Asia and globally remains a key company objective."
Avivagen is a life sciences company commercializing products to replace the antibiotics used in livestock feeds, initially concentrating on the two largest feed segments -- swine and broiler poultry.
